Drug-Free Approach to Pain Management
Drug-free therapies are often recommended for treatment. With increased attention to the opioid crisis an increasing number of patients are turning to chiropractic care, acupuncture, and other non-pharmaceutical approaches to treating pain. Many insurance companies and other coverage payers are adopting new protocols that require patients to have treatment in the form of spinal manipulation, physical therapy, massage or acupuncture prior to receiving a narcotic prescription for pain.
Doctors of chiropractic focus on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and while most people commonly think of neck and back pain as traditional ailments treated by chiropractors, the list of conditions helped by chiropractic treatment is actually quite long. Chiropractors are experts in spinal and joint manipulation. When spinal vertebrae and other joints are not moving properly, disruption can occur in the nervous system, causing nerve irritation, pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, and other discomfort. Restoring proper motion to misaligned and “stuck” joints reduces nervous system disruption, reducing or eliminating pain, giving health the best opportunity to return, and improving quality of life.
Many chiropractors incorporate additional drug-free services in their patients’ treatment plans such as physiotherapy, nutrition, and lifestyle counseling, among others.
“We have found it effective to perform chiropractic adjustments and physiotherapy” said David Bradham, DC of Bradham Chiropractic Clinic.
“We often provide acupuncture, spinal decompression therapy (excellent for disc problems causing nerve pain), extensive nutritional testing and analysis, and cold laser therapy,” Dr. Bradham continued.
Dr. Bradham also holds a degree as a Diplomate in Acupuncture and is certified as a Digestive Health Professional.
“We have a variety of options for our patients’ treatment that allow the body to heal itself rather than masking symptoms with a pain pill or other medication.”
Chronic conditions often respond well to periodic chiropractic treatment, which is highly preferable to a dependence on pain medication and opioid addiction. Chiropractic care is an excellent lifestyle choice for overall health and well-being.
Dr. Bradham’s office has been nominated for Best Chiropractic Office. This year there are ten offices in the category. This year’s Best of Harnett County has been expanded and reorganized over past years. Health & Beauty is a major category with 19 sub-categories and 156 individuals and businesses participating.
